I got this bulb last summer, put it in the ground and it has finally begun to grow. It's about time! ^_^

Garden- crape myrtles

It has been too hot here! Temps have been running in the high 90's to over a 100! We have not had a good rain in weeks. I decided to take a walk outside to see if any of my plants are still alive.

I found this little Crape myrtle a few years ago growing from an old dead tree stump.You can find many aged trees around old home sites just like this one. I am sure the original tree must have been cut down years ago. I found this one and two more and transplanted them into my yard over two years ago.

This is the first year one of these little trees have bloomed. Looking at the flowers makes me believe this is a Tuscaora or Tuskegee variety. It is of medium height and will grow up to 20' tall as an adult tree. I can only hope that one day I will have three 20' trees in my yard, all blooming in early July, full of these dark pink blooms.

It makes me happy to think of that old, long gone tree still lives on.

We took a drive into the country yesterday. It was raining, not a heavy rain but more of a drizzle.

We came upon this little house sitting on the side of the road. I am always drawn to these old homes, with their chipping paint and the emptiness.

Many older homes that have been abandoned look so lonely. I want to fill them with children’s laughter and paint them in bright cheerful colors.

I joined a swap based on the painting, open to *any* media...collage, paint, quilt, dolls, whatever! It could be a very literal interpretation of it, a piece using the actual image itself, or just a jumping off point for an abstract piece.

Pieces should be no smaller than 8 inches, and no larger than 12 inches, approx. (for ease of mailing)

Due date would be the last week of October.

Art can have a deeper meaning other than just visual pleasure. The point in this small 8x10 sketch is the modern need to force young mothers to bottle feed their babies. It really is a wonder why we would take something so natural and ruin it with a bottle.

I am sure that the bottle has its place, but nothing can replace what nature has provided. In its purity woman is created to produce and nurture the life of her infant.

Another issue is the plastic diaper. Convenient? Yes! It also causes a global environmental issue of waste. Plastic does not break down into any natural form. We are left with millions of diapers laying in land fields around the planet with nowhere to go.

In this sketch I ask the question: What would the baby Jesus have felt if he had been born into modern times? Simple question huh?

Art can have a deeper meaning. It can ask you a question. You simply have to look deeper into yourself and view it on a personal level.

I thought I would show the process I use for the painting called "Beauty". In this picture you can see the steps I take in creating the layers, one on top of another, allowing each layer to dry before adding another.

It really gives the painting a depth of colors with out making it look muddy. I love the way all the layers work together in this way.

I also use linseed oil in my paint. It gives a gloss to the painting that I really like.
